| FILTERING: |
The
most common use of controlled porosity sintered bronze is that of filters.
Bronze filters are capable of three dimensional filtration of foreign matter
without absorbing additives from the fluid. The media being filtered
pass through a network of openings and are not limited to surface filtration
only. These porous bronze filters will withstand high pressure drops caused
by clogging that would ordinarily rupture paper or fiber filters. Porous
sintered bronze filters are used in fuel, lubricating, pneumatic, hydraulic
and other fluid systems. A typical application is seen in the illustration.
Periodic cleaning of bronze filters with solvents, back flushing or
ultrasonic cleaning will assure an extended service life requiring
infrequent replacement. |

METERING: |
|
Liquids
may be controlled or metered by porous sintered bronze orifices. The defined
control of the amount of liquid required is possible through the use of the
various porosity ratings of sintered bronze available. A pneumatic lubricator
utilizes this principle. The high strength of porous sintered bronze
allows its use as a pressure drop orifice in high pressure fluid systems. |

| FLAME
ARRESTING: |
|
Open
flames or sparks generated by equipment operating in an explosive atmosphere
can be rendered harmless by the utilization of controlled porosity
sintered bronze in enclosures. The porous sintered bronze prevents
the propagation of flame from inside the enclosure to the external atmosphere
by acting as a heat sink which quenches the flame. In addition, the correct
selection of porous sintered bronze results in a reduction in the enclosure
wall thickness and weight at a considerable cost saving for explosion
proof switchgear, light fixtures for hospital operating rooms, etc. |
|
SNUBBING:
Porous
sintered bronze discs located between gauges and fluid supply lines will
dampen vibration and shock due to line pressure changes, thereby preventing
possible damage of gauges and permitting accurate readings. |

| SOUND
DAMPENING: |
| Products
of controlled porosity sintered bronze have proven to be most effective
as exhaust mufflers on air operated equipment. Designs of this type offer
excellent sound attenuating qualities with the lowest possible pressure
drop to assure acceptable noise levels and minimum loss of power. |

|
| SEPARATING: |
|
| A
mixture of two fluids can be separated by use of porous sintered bronze.
Feasibility is dependent on system pressure and surface tension of the
two fluids. This property of porous sintered bronze can also be utilized
for phase separation of liquid-vapor mixtures in cryogenic applications. |

FLUIDIZING
OF POWDERS:
|
 |
| Porous
sintered bronze plates act as an excellent fluidizing bed base for the
movement of materials such as cement, plastics, stellites, flour, etc.
By slightly inclining the bed and applying low air pressures below the
porous bronze plates, materials can be moved above the plates easily
and quickly on pneumatic conveyor equipment. Likewise, the same principle
can be applied for heating and coating materials in fluidized bed ovens
and furnaces. |

| VACUUM
FORMING: |
| Plastic
vacuum forming is an excellent application for porous sintered bronze.
The finer porosity material produces a smooth finish in the plastic end
product. The porous property of sintered bronze acts as an excellent
vacuum forming plate and vacuum positioning or holding device. |
 |
|
| HEAT
EXCHANGING AND ABSORBING: |
|
| The
unique structure of controlled porosity bronze is ideal for many heat
exchange and heat absorption applications. A porous bronze matrix with
its large surface area acts as a very efficient heat transfer device
for heat exchangers and heat sinks. |
|
|
VENTING:
Porous
sintered bronze provides an excellent means of venting crankcases, housings,
etc. It equalizes pressures or vacuums and prevents the entrance of harmful
dirt particles. |
